Veer off to Vermont

Last year on the Bubble Trailer Light Tour, we took a little jaunt up toward Vermont to visit our fellow Lumix Ambassador, Ben Grunnow. It was certainly a little way out of the direction we were heading, but we so wanted to 1) see the fall colors of Vermont and 2) see his beautiful cabin he was building on his property! So, we took the trek and it was one of the biggest highlights of the whole tour. It’s actually worth probably 4-6 blogs, since we did so much and saw so much in the few days we spent with him in northern Vermont! The little town of Lake Elmore (and the actual lake) was just a few miles away at the base of the hill where he lived. (stellar fog in the morning…stay tuned for the blog!)

We met at the waterfalls nearby where he often hikes and photographs, but the time of day was not ideal for photography and there were lots of people there too. We saw it and decided to take the drive to the cabin. I’ll never forget the cows along the way. At one spot, he pulled over next to the edge of the road right near a big field of cows, “The quintessential Vermont hillside with cows”, he said, “is just something you have to see”. I captured a few images showing the fall colors, the big view beyond the field, and then they got curious—and friendly! Ben started photographing right into their faces and the show was on!!

This adorable cow was so curious about what we were doing and so NOT shy! I grabbed a wide angle and got down on my knees in the grass and we had a ball laughing and marveling at how silly she was being! I almost wish I had shot some video, but I wanted to get some amazing stills…. Of course there are enough of them, it could almost make a stop-motion reel!

The backlight was a challenge but processing the raw files with lightroom made them better, although the red ears from the backlight needs to be toned down. Such great memories—

Please Enjoy and remember:

next time you go to Vermont, pull over and say hi to the cows!!
