Wild Horses – What a Dream!!

I have to share one of my most exciting adventures lately! Last week I went to RENO to do some LUMIX Training at one of our new Pro dealers, Action Camera! They have a wonderful team, a well-equipped store and they already have a few on staff who use (and love) LUMIX Cameras! After my Demo Day, I asked them where I might go for photos in the area before I drove home to Sacramento. Katie, the manager mentioned Washoe Lake, just 20 minutes south, where she often sees a herd of wild horses on her daily drive to and from work. Wow, I thought, what are the odds that I would get to see them on my ONE morning in Reno?

Well, I optimistically scoped out the lake the evening after my class and was treated to a beautiful sunset!

I drove all the way around it to find safe places to pull off the road and likely spots where the horses would be (and their obvious droppings of where they have been!). I drove back to my hotel in the dark and packed up so I could get out the door and down to the lake at sunrise the next morning. It was a #goodplan. On the way home, actually if I drove home on Hwy 50 by South Lake Tahoe.  I was hopeful and #Optimistic! Sunrise was at 7am, so I aimed for 6:00 or 6:30 to take off, thinking it might be pretty light at sunrise, but mostly I just wanted to see horses in brighter light.

I took off and saw a sliver of color but almost immediately the sky became grey and overcast. No rush for sure.  I arrived at the lake around 7:30-ish, taking my time, cruising the park areas where they hang out and capturing the bare bushes in the mirror water… got some lovely shots like this:

Makes me wonder if Mother Nature has fallen for the horrid trend of Too-Big False Eyelashes like so many of the young ladies!?  I couldn’t un-SEE it once I saw THE EYE!! LOL

I continued to drive around the east side of the lake and spotted two horses on the hill above the road. I pulled off to take 2-3 images but didn’t see the herd yet. I drove on hoping to see the rest…. And there they were, all scattered in the valley at the edge of the lake, grazing!

…….TO BE CONTINUED…. (YES MORE IMAGES AND ADVENTURE!)
