The Holidays Blurred By…

Well, I started writing this… and then the “crazy” of the new year happened and before I knew it, the 4th, then the 5th and then the 6th had rolled up…. is it too late? Not relevant? (mind races thru scenarios of Christmas activities for a moment we could have squeezed in one more thing…)

Yeah, we beat ourselves up for being less than perfect sometimes, but really, what’s important is to do the best you can and be authentic about it. Sometimes you just have to choose your battles! (or choose your victories)

Well, I felt pretty good about actually MAILING my Christmas cards BEFORE Christmas Day!! OK, so it was on the 24th, BUT… It beats my record for the past few years when we opted for New Year Cards! And last year we sent out a video on FB! Realistically, I think photographers should have a grace card for the holidays because everyone else’s stuff comes first. And that’s ok. And if its not ok with you, that’s ok, too.  When you get to a certain age and you’ve seen holidays come and go, and survived them all and still have friends after you send late cards, you learn to take it far less seriously. More hugs; less drama and guilt. It’s a new-improved holiday recipe for happier holidays– guaranteed.

But I digress….

Where was I going? Oh yeah, the blur photo– so I’ve been having a lot of fun with shooting out the window of a moving vehicle when it is not practical to stop [at every corner]!

It requires low light (no sun) if you don’t have a neutral density filter, so overcast is good. It actually turned into an exciting discovery of what SNOW does with a slow shutter speed and purposeful backwards panning. Cool stuff, when it is actually snowing, and you really don’t want to get out in it, nor does your driver. This image was taken as we buzzed thru a tiny town called Manitou Springs, just west of Colorado Springs, Colorado. We had been enjoying warm sunny weather, when this particular Sunday morning the world went white. It soon became a full-blown winter wonderland in a few hours.

After church and lunch, we took the scenic route north to Woodland Park and enjoyed the warmth of the truck with 4WD while cruising to see the red rocks draped in white, like icing on a cake. Simply beautiful. The Garden of the Gods was still full of people running around shooting in the snow. (and I was too for a few minutes!) These were actually taken November 11, and we got our dose of real winter a good month early before we had our sunny Calif Christmas!

So that’s my Winter story… and I just wanted to share this cool image of the Christmas decorated lamp in the scurry-blurry-flurry!  It just was a happy accident that illustrated the fun of the day in Colorado springs! AND the snowy pix of the Garden of the Gods…. #love

I hope your Holidays were Happy!
