A Dickens Christmas

The Wednesday Club of Suisun, December Meeting

The Wednesday Club usually does a holiday luncheon with beautiful table settings and some kind of special speaker, and they have it photographed and a simple slide show made by my fellow photographer friend, Jim. He has done it for them for years. But this year when they called, they wanted video. Why? Well, it was going to be something special.

It was going to be A Dickens Christmas!

Since he doesn’t do video, Jim referred me. So when Kathryn called, I asked her what the event would be like, as well as what the finished product would be. Welllll…..it was unlike any event I had imagined! She said that one of the members who is quite crafty made all the costumes and about 30 of them would be “in character and costume” as the people of The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. They would be caroling and preparing food and hosting the event for the rest of the attending members. The social hour would be mostly people arriving and interacting and socializing and then they would have a short 5 minute meeting with announcements and then lunch! They just wanted me to capture the interactions and reactions, the décor and the costumes, the smiles and the energy for that first hour. I was to be “invisible”, with no lighting or directions.

It sounded like a fun challenge, and I told her I could use the audio of the caroling and then put together a 3-5 minute show of all the goings-on with the actual audio silenced- just using the caroling as music. (it turned out they didn’t want their non-professional caroling after all, so we used some piano carols from another event I attended.)

Well, who could have imagined the talent and vision of this lady, Georgia Hanson, who designed and sewed all the costumes? It was Simply Amazing. The Room was in elegant timely décor and the food was beautiful and the finished piece was a pure hit! They played it at the January meeting for the attendees who missed it and many wanted to get the download to re-watch and share! I am delighted that Georgia’s family will have a visual record of what SHE created- a masterful creation indeed!

I just wanted to share it with you, my readers, because it was fun and classy and unique! It might be a bit long for viewers who don’t know any of these people, but I guarantee you the members who were there loved seeing everyone in the spirit on this magical morning!

Enjoy!
