#13 Zebras

Many photographers use the “blinkies” on their DSLRs to identify areas that are grossly overexposed. It works, but is as distracting as pop up ads on a webpage! Video cameras on the other hand typically utilize subtle diagonal stripes (Zebras) to show you where those areas are. They are much less annoying and accomplish the same thing EXCEPT you can set hem to whatever value you like! I usually set Zebra 1 at 80% and Zebra 2 at 100% so I can pick either one, depending on if there is anything white in the image. It literally means I don’t need to whip out my meter every single minute and I get predictable and accurate exposures all while looking through the view finder and dialing away the zebras with my exposure dials. Again, what did I do before I had this??
